One of the best shows I have ever seen, being a native to SF Uncle Bobo's passing was an unbelievable shock to our community, this run of shows was extremely emotional and the Ken Kesey death rant was a mindblowing moment of grief. This tape was made in the section below us and I am pretty sure I can hear myself woop once or twice. I always pick an audience tape over soundboard, just my preference.
Thank you thank you thank you for sharing this precious memory.

I have major hearing problems. It’s called tinnitus and for those of you who don’t know it is a constant ringing in your ears. Therefore, it is hard for me to find audience shows that are of good enough quality for me to listen to without doing further damage to my hearing (by having to turn up the volume past 5 to even tell what song is being played!). I am not saying anything about these shows except that as a person with major hearing lose, these are some of the shows that I have on my I-Pod. Of course some are better than others. However, I am not giving any of these shows a review. I can always find something good in every show…...as long as I can hear it!!!! Here is my list for today, 9/20/08:

7.6.84, 10.15.84, 6.19.91,
7.18.89, 6.21.84, 9.6.85,
10.12.84, 10.12.83, 11.1.85,
8.24.85, 7.31.82, 6.25.92,
8.5.89, 10.31.83, 6.26.92,
10.8.84, 12.5.81, 8.30.85,
11.5.85, 6.26.84, 8.3.82,
6.8.80, 10.14.84, 8.10.82,
3.14.81, 12.26.80, 4.15.83,
4.18.82, 10.31.91, 9.2.85,
10.14.83, 4.2.90, 4.30.90,

Please let me know if you have any show suggestions that compare to these in quality of sound. Send suggestions to frostyspicks@live.com.
Peace,
Frosty

Outstanding recording of what was an incredibly memorable show and run. Lots more fun to listen to than the marginal soundboard. Best of all for me, I was lucky enough to have been there! I got to Oakland on the 26th, turned on the TV in the motel and was greeted by the news that Bill Graham had been killed in a helicopter crash the night before. OK, that certainly puts a damper on things. But this Halloween show was such a great loving tribute to Bill: it truly had the feeling of one of those great San Francisco all-star type shows that we East Coasters read about so covetously. Ken Kesey doing improv, Gary Duncan doing his Quicksilver thing...it was truly too much, and a fitting sendoff for one of the greatest characters in rock history. Farewell Uncle Bobo!

I was at this show, and right next to Marcus when he made it. He busted his ass and baked standing like a statue with that hat on - the BGP guys had been busting the FOB guys throughout the run. He didn't tape the first set to insure he would get this one - it came out fantastic. Almost 15 years later - thanks.

FWIW - I've never heard the board and don't care to. This is the one to get.

As cheesy as it is - the hair on the back of my neck stands straight up when Kesey talks about his son. The show itself is a good one - but that moment is why I listen. The circumstances of the period and the emotional rap by Kesey are one of my most vivid Grateful Dead memories. I hadn't listened for many years - and it just blew my mind again.

5 stars for being a reference aud from Oakland, a good show, and a historic Grateful Dead moment.
